Pomegranate Juice?

Do anybody know how much pomegranate juice you are suppose drink a day?

Pomegranate Juice?
Hi Robver, it’s hard to drink more than a glass full without getting a stomach upset, because of its strong astringency.

The juice of the pomegranate contains polyphenolics, tannins and anthocyanins - compounds that are thought to have a beneficial effect. In addition, the juice has many vitamins and minerals. It is rich in iron and vitamins A, C and E. You can drink the juice. During the summer I have on occasion found pomegranate juice at a farmers market.

Pomegranate stains??

While drinking some pomegranate juice i spilled some on my shirt. Whats a good way to get the stain out? I've heard about spraying Shout on my shirt and letting it sit. Does that actually work? Is there any remedies for getting the stain out, pleas tell me!!!

Vanish oxi action
Reply:You have to wash it immediately. If you wait too long nothing works.
Reply:Shout ADVANCED works wonders, even if the stain has been there a while. Spray it on good, wait an hour or so, then throw it in the wash. If the stain doesn't come out, repeat! I have even repeated after drying, it really does get out set in stains! Good luck!

Pomegranate stain on blue jeans?

I've got a pink stain on my jeans from sitting on pomegranate, that's been sitting there for about a day(I just noticed!) Help-- these are my good blue jeans, how do I remove it?

Pomegranate stain on blue jeans?
the unfortunate news is that pomegranate is notorious for untreatable stains. That said, I would try using the Tide pen. If that doesn't work, wet the spot with COLD water, then put a bit of detergent or stain treatment on the spot. Let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub the spot with an old toothbrush. Rinse and repeat if necessary. But my guess is, you won't be able to completely remove it =\
Reply:This is my secret remedy, which is now no longer a secret. But, I'll share. Works even on old dried blood.

Get some clorox 2 powder form only. Mix in some Dove dish washing soap, until you have a paste. Rub it on the spot and let is sit for about an hour. Then wash your jeans. This is tried and true. I even got rust spots out of a 50 year old wedding dress that belonged to my Mom. The Clorox 2 is safe for colors. Only use those ingredients. Substitutes won't work. Good luck.

Pomegranate Seeds Safe to Eat?

I've read that the pomegranate is an excellent source of vitamins and antioxidants. However, a friend of mine told me recently that the seeds of that particular fruit are not safe to eat. Is this true? I assumed the entire fruit, minus the outer skin was edible. Any fruit experts out there that can help me out with this? Thanks

the juice and seeds are edible, the pulp (white part of the inside) and the skin are not. The seeds are just really hard to chew.

Pomegranate's in my area while not in season?

I am absolutely dying for a pomegranate. Sadly, they are not in season.

Does anyone know where I could find them (a store) in the Cleveland, Ohio (south or west of Cleveland) area?

I've tried most of the stores with no avail and no, juice just will not do the trick.

did you try the West Side Market? (W25th and Lorain) The vendors usually carry a variety of fruit/veggies. Not guaranteeing anything, but worth a try!

Or, maybe Trader Joe's? There's one in Crocker Park (Westlake). They're such a hip little grocery store, they might carry the more trendy fruits like pomegranates.

Good luck!

Pomegranate stain?!!?

i got pomegranate stain on my blue shirt. it's a pretty nice shirt too! is there any way to get it out? or is it permanent? =(

Pomegranate stain?!!?
Go get some biz color safe bleach -

dissolve a scoop full in a sink full of lukewarm water, (just warm enough to dissolve it.) put your shirt in there and let it soak overnight.

Then put it in the washer with your regular soap and cold water. Add a scoop of Oxy clean to it and let it agitate.

No matter what do NOT dry the shirt until the stain is completely out. You may have to soak it a couple of times before it comes out.

You can also treat it with liquid detergent directly on the stain and then follow the above steps.

Good luck.
Reply:wipe the stain with a wet towel or napkin, dry it off, then use a tide to go pen (available at almost any supermarket/grocery store) on the stain, after using a tide to go pen on the stain wash your shirt.

good luck!
Reply:Oxi clean should work. It took beet juice out of my daughters shirt. I though the shirt was a gonner, also Zout might work too. (not Shout it's Zout - in a purple spray bottle, it works really good on grease, and food stains)
Reply:Shout it out and wash it immediately by itself, repeat this after the first wash. Your shirt should be fine. If the stain doesn't come out, take it to the dry cleaner, they can sometimes get serious stains out for no extra $.
Reply:Not knowing the answer I googled for a bit...

Some said oxi-clean

Some said, "Nature's Miracle really works well on this. It's marketed as a pet odor/stain remover. You can buy it in pet food stores. (Get the liquid form.) It contains an enzyme that breaks down proteins. I recently used it on week-old pomegranate juice stains--totally gone! -- Kellie"

"pomegranate juice can darken if it comes in. contact with metal, use plastic or glass utensils"

I'd go with cold water soaks with a good cleaning product multiple times... the sooner you treat it the better.

good luck
Reply:Try Oxyclean, it is usually good for organic stains, and as long as you don't dry your shirt, you can try another item if it doesn't work. P.S. Use cold water, hot water sets stains.
Reply:Not sure, pomegranite is very hard stain to remove. Put spray and wash on as soon as possible, might help.

Is this true that drinking pomegranate juice help lower cholesterol while eating their seeds increase it?

Reddish-pink rind that holds hundreds of seeds in a juicy, red pulp. Pomegranate juice is extracted from the seeds of the fruit.

Is this true that drinking pomegranate juice help lower cholesterol? Where as eating pomegranate seeds increases cholesterol

Is this true that drinking pomegranate juice help lower cholesterol while eating their seeds increase it?
Like many fruit juices, pomegranate juice contains antioxidants, especially polyphenols. However, pomegranate juice contains antioxidants at much higher levels than other fruit juices. Antioxidants are thought to provide several heart-protecting benefits, including reducing low-density lipoprotein (LDL, or "bad") cholesterol.

Pomegranate juice is generally safe to drink. Most studies have used a daily dose of 1.5 ounces of pomegranate juice with no significant side effects.

As with any herbal or dietary supplement, however, talk to your doctor about pomegranate juice before you start using it regularly. There is some concern that pomegranate juice may affect metabolism of some prescription medications. It may also cause blood pressure to become too low when combined with certain blood pressure medications.

There does not seem to be evidence that the seeds will raise cholesterol.

In fact many recipes call for the seed as well as the juice.
Reply:yes it is true b/c the juice has more things in it then the seed so i mean the juice is from the plant not the base.

Pomegranate perfume.....?

are there any pomegranate smelling perfumes or body sprays, i can buy online or in any store? i love the way it smells but its hard to find.

Pomegranate perfume.....?
Pomegranate Noir is really good, it's by jo malone. one of my relatives uses it and it smells really good. i googled it and i founf this:

While most of the Jo Malone fragrances are based around a single note, Pomegranate Noir comes as a surprise given its relative complexity. Essentially, it is a frankincense laced fruit compote. A note of tart fruit offers an initial burst, which soon segues into an accord that reminds me more of dried cranberries and cherries than pomegranates. Dryness of patchouli is the only element that is most evident of the note, with the earthy quality being rather subtle. On the other hand, frankincense dominates the composition, drowning out everything else.

Pomegranate steak?

Pomegranate steak?
UMAC SKIRT STEAK WITH POMEGRANATE REDUCTION

With just the right balance of sweetness from the pomegranate juice and sour notes from the sumac, this layering of flavors accomplishes the enviable task of enhancing the flavor of the steak without overpowering it.

2 cups bottled pomegranate juice (16 fl oz)

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon sumac

1 teaspoon black pepper

2 lb skirt steak

3 tablespoons unsalted butter

3 tablespoons finely chopped shallot (1 medium)

1/4 cup ruby or tawny Port

1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

Bring pomegranate juice, sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon salt to a boil in a 1 1/2- to 2-quart saucepan over moderately high heat, then boil until reduced to about 1/3 cup, 20 to 30 minutes.

Preheat broiler.

Meanwhile, stir together sumac, pepper, and remaining 3/4 teaspoon salt. Cut steak into pieces to fit in a large shallow baking pan and pat dry. Transfer steak to baking pan and sprinkle evenly with sumac mixture, then let stand about 10 minutes.

Broil steaks 3 to 4 inches from heat, turning over once, 2 to 3 minutes total for thinner pieces, 3 to 4 minutes for thicker pieces for medium-rare. Transfer steaks with any pan juices to a large plate and let stand, loosely covered with foil, 10 minutes.

While steak stands, heat 1 tablespoon butter in a 10-inch heavy skillet over moderately high heat until foam subsides, then cook shallot, stirring occasionally, until golden, 3 to 5 minutes. Add Port and simmer until reduced to a glaze, 2 to 3 minutes. Add meat juices accumulated on plate and bring to a simmer. Whisk in pomegranate reduction and lemon juice. Remove from heat and whisk in remaining 2 tablespoons butter until incorporated.

Holding knife at a 45-degree angle, thinly slice steak diagonally and serve with sauce.

Ever eaten pomegranate?

I just did. Today. For the first time.

I loved it!

Have you ever eaten pomegranate, and if you did, how did you like it?

I think it appears in fairy-tales as the fruit of eternal youth - is that so? What story - Alladin?

It is also said to be the forbidden fruit of Eden. Pomegranate and not apple?

Ever eaten pomegranate?
Yup, I love them! I know it appears in the story of how Hades kidnapped Persephone and took her to the Underworld. While there she refused to eat anything until Hades gave her a Pomegranate (or the seeds depending on the source) which she ate and because of it had to stay in the Underworld 9 months out of the year.
Reply:Pomegranates are yummy. The pomegranate is the fruit that kept Psyche (I think) the bride of Hades for 6 months out of the year in mythology.
Reply:I have never eaten one as the actualy fruit, but I have had the juice before and you are right they are quite yummy and very good for you!
Reply:yep, I used to eat them when I was in junior high school. They were absolutely delicious. I really have no desire to eat them now ..... a bit too messy. But its great that there are so many juices now that are pomegranate based.
Reply:yes I love them there are a lot of stories the juice was considered to be the nectar of the gods I love the juice I also love pomegranate vodka with pomegranate juice
Reply:I did in the second grade in 1981.
Reply:I love them!!!!
Reply:No, but I've had it in my drink before. It's really good.
Reply:Yes. Tasty, but a bit of a pain to deal with. Didn't really like them well enough to feel they were worth the effort. Supposed to be good for you, though.
Reply:mm, i love pomegranates! i havent heard of it in stories like that, though, thats pretty interesting.
Reply:My mom and I couldn't figure out how to eat it, so I stared at one for a few minutes.
Reply:I like them and fun to eat
Reply:Never eaten, drink it. Is strong but is good. I love it!!!
Reply:it wasn't Alladin.

I know that the pomengranate was the fruit Persephone (not Psyche) are while in Hades.

and they're tasty!
Reply:they are the best and really good for you....and also fun to eat
Reply:as a kid i use to pick them off neighbors trees in calif and eat them. they sure are messy! i hear the juice is really good for you = but expensive!
Reply:Yes! I love pomegranates. They tend to be expensive so i eat them as an occassional treat rather than all the time. They're messy, but delicious!
Reply:I love pomegranates and use them as a fruit and in cooking. Pomegranate molasses is an especially good ingredient used in Middle Eastern cooking.

They appear in Biblical stories and Greek mythology. They are also very good for you.
Reply:According to Greek mythology, the reason we have winter is because Persephone ate four pomegranate seeds during her brief stay in the Underworld with Hades, resulting in four months of winter due to her mother Demeter's sorrow.......
Reply:love them and good for you check the internet lots of information
Reply:Yes

It was good

Pretty too

It's likely, the Bible says it was beautiful to look at.
Reply:It taste great in my opinion.

You can add it to desserts or Smoothies as well.

Just don't get any of the fruit's juice in your clothes. Taking out the stain is murder.

How do you grow pomegranate trees?

I bought one pomegranate for R 14, 00 at Woolworths. Have not seen one in years, do not think they grow here at the coast. Do you think I will be able to grow a tree from a pip or do you need a "steggie"?

How do you grow pomegranate trees?
I've given up planting anything, my Labrador is driving me insane, rips every and any plant he can find out of the ground as his chew toy. Tried running him more frequently, wooden fences which he chews apart and pepper and poep spread across the garden flower beds, nothing works.

I've completely branched off the topic haven't I........
Reply:I will rather buy a plant from a nursery. That way you know that you have a healthy plant. For the heck of it, I can not even remember if I have seen any at trees at a nursery. R14 for one is a rip off, damm. Our neighbors have one and some of the branches is in our yard and that way we get some.
Reply:A cutting or baby plant works best, its just that much more hassle to grow it from a pip and it's soul destroying if the seedling dies on you after tons of TLC.

Once the little plant is strong enough to be popped in the garden it will grow like a weed.
Reply:I think that they will grow at the coast. They like a mediterranean climate.

You could be right about that, I don't know, but it is very good for you. It has so many properties that are good for you. It is an anti-oxident which helps you look younger (i need that) lol.

There are other fruits which have ant-oxidents and alot of goodness in them as all fruits, but the ones with the best properties are Citrus fruits, Cranberries, Raspberries, Pommigranits, Celery. Fruit is esspecially good for you. You should never go without Fruit %26amp; Vegitables. Generally just taking care of you're body with the right food intake.
Reply:you can now buy concentrated pomegranite juice from health shops where you only have to take a 20ml shot a day. costs around £6 and the bottle claims product is "heart healthy"
Reply:There is lots of good drinks on the market from pure beetroot juice and best of all prune juice which is better than them all.
Reply:The studies suggest that the juice may lower cholesterol, improve blood flow, aid in erectile function, and even slow the growth of prostate cancer. Pomegranate juice is praised for its high levels of antioxidants, called polyphenols. Antioxidants are believed to fight off free radicals, which can cause cellular damage and disease. According to a recent study published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry, pomegranate juice contains higher and more potent polyphenol levels than any other beverage, including red wine, Concord grape juice, and even other superfoods like blueberry and açaí.*

This is what I found; hope it helps.

My pomegranate has never flowered, what am I doing wrong?

I have a Pomegranate bush in my yard. It is 3 years old and has never flowered. I live in South Florida. I have seen very productive pomegranates in our local botanical gardens.

My pomegranate has never flowered, what am I doing wrong?
Usually when a plant does not flower it is because ithe soil lacks phosphorous or the phosphorous is locked up because the soil is too alkaline. Pomegranates are generally very hardy trees and as such should not need too much attention. They generally like poor soil conditins. My guess is that your soil is very alkaline and you should try dropping the PH with some soil sulphur or aluminum sulphate. When soils are too alkaline, a plant is unable to tap into the minerals that would ordinarily be available to it. I would also try feeding it with liquid seaweed. Seaweed does wonders for all plants.
Reply:Try giving it a high phosphorus fertilizer. Fertilizers with high middle numbers promote flowering.
Reply:Does it see much sun? Try giving it a high phosphorus fertilizer you can get this from a nursery. Fertilizers with high middle numbers promote better flowering. But before you feed the fertilizer to the plant make sure you read the instructions as to much of the stuff might kill it.

Can dogs eat pomegranate?

My dog may have a brain tumor. I'm going to a third vet this week for help. I have been searching for supplements that might help shrink tumors in humans and be safe for dogs. I have started giving my dog coQ10, fish oil, alpha lipoic acid, and ellagic acid in the form of pomegranate powder. I found info on the other supplements for dogs except ellagic acid (aka pomegranate). One vet told me before that grapes/raisins can be toxic for dogs so I just want to be sure I'm not accidentally hurting my dog giving her the pomegranate powder. Thanks.

Can dogs eat pomegranate?
Grapes and raises ARE NOT GOOD for a dog. Your vet is wrong.

: Grapes and raisins can cause kidney failure in dogs. As little as a single serving of raisins can kill a dog

I really don't know if pomegranate is good or bad. I couldn't find anything, but I do have a list of that you shouldn't feed your dog. I hope it helps somewhat.

Good luck with your dog. I hope everything turns out OK.

ADD:

I did a little more searching and found some frozen pomegranate bars that are made for dogs, so I don't see any reason why you couldn't give your dog pomegranate.

Again, good luck, and I hope everything turns out fine with your dog.
Reply:dogs can eat grapes and rasin my vet reommends them and my dog loves them. she also likes pomegranate jucie, and never had a problem

As few as 7 grapes can cause death in a dog. I have the medical proof in a file if anyone wants to dispute it. This from the Poison Control.

That seems to have worked for ours.It not only had fruit on it, but it is also blooming again.

Are pomegranate seeds (arils) a safe treat for my pet mice?

I know that they should only be given small amounts of fruits and vegetables as treats now and then, and I know all the basics like apples and carrots and such, but I can't find anything about pomegranates. I see research studies saying they give them pomegranate juice and such, but we all know that what they do in labs isn't necessarily in the best interest of the animals. I can't imagine that it would really be bad for them but I thought I would ask before I try. If nobody knows and I do try, what should I watch for? Just diarrhea or are there other symptoms to look out for? Thanks in advance!

I got a pomegranate stain over my white school shirt , my mom will kill me?

i was de-seeding a pomegranate and i got pink speckles all over my SCHOOL shirt , my mom will kill me , is there anyway i can quickly get it out and i mean QUICKLY

I got a pomegranate stain over my white school shirt , my mom will kill me?
If you have a laundry pretreater like Spray n Wash or Shout.. Give the shirt a good spray and soak in a very, very mild solution of bleach water... Like acouple tablespoons... Swirl it around and add acouple tablespoons of laundry soap and SOAK.... Launder as usual.... If it's nice and sunny dry the shirt on an outdoor clothes line....

*Do NOT use too much bleach.... and only wash your shirt with other WHITES.... Or rinse it out by hand in the bathtub/basin.... Roll in a clean WHITE towel and squeeze to dry! Check for stains... If the shirt is still stained you may have to repeat process.. DO NOT put shirt in dryer....
Reply:If it is still fresh, rinse it in lots of water. Then, add a little dish soap or rub a bar of soap on it and rinse it. (It may still stain. Pomegranate juice is murder to get out! You can try to prevent it but once you use soap, it either comes out or stains.) Next time, wrap a towel around you or use an apron that totally covers your clothes. Learn a good lesson!
Reply:I use Dawn liquid dish detergent to get out all kinds of stains. Wet the spot a little, and put some dish liquid (just try whatever brand your mom has), then use an old tooth brush to gently swirl around the soap and scrub out the stain. Rinse it well. I wouldn't fool around with bleach without your mom knowing, you could ruin more than fix with it!
Reply:Get a stain remover a soak the stain in it for about fifteen minutes then wash in the washer with a 1/4 cup bleach. gl

Demetrius and the pomegranate?

There is a story about Demetrius and the pomegranate that my daughters teacher asked her to find, but I'm having no luck online. Do you know what it is?

Demetrius and the pomegranate?
yes the daughter of the goddess in charge of the weather and flowers was tricked into going into the underworld with hades. while there hades gave her 12 pomegranete grains and she ate 6. by the time her mother got there it was to late. she and hades fought and they finally decided that the daughter would spend 6 of the twelve months in the underworld representing fall and winter, and the other six with her mother representing summer and spring. see the story goes that the daughter was the total happiness of the godess and thats part of the year it is beautiful and the other (when she is sad) the climate is cold and barren.

sorry dont know the exact names of the goddess and her daughter
Reply:Do you mean Demeter? if so it is the story of Persephone.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persephone
Reply:is not demetrius is Persephone look for it on wikipedia.org not google
Reply:Yes I do. Once upon a time Demeter's( Demetrius) daughter ,Presephone, was playing in a flowery Field when Hades saw her. He feel in love with her and kidnapped her taking her to the underworld so he could marry her.

When Demeter returned to the flowery field and found that her daughter was missing she was in despair. She searched all the world looking for her (in some versions of the myth she is accompanied by Hecate) When she learned that Zeus had conspired in her daughter's abduction she was furious, and refused to let the earth fruit until Persephone was returned. Zeus agreed , but because the girl had tasted of the food of Hades(a handful of pomegranate seeds)she was forced to forever spend a part of the year with her husband in the underworld.

Its the myth of the seasons.
Reply:Demeter is the the Greek earth goddess, who brings forth the fruits of the earth, particularly the various grains. She taught mankind the art of sowing and ploughing so they could end their nomadic existence. As such, Demeter was also the goddess of planned society. She was very popular with the rural population.

In systematized theology, Demeter is a daughter of Cronus and Rhea and sister of Zeus by whom she became the mother of Persephone. When Persephone was abducted by Hades, lord of the underworld, Demeter wandered the earth in search of her lost child. During this time the earth brought forth no grain. Finally Zeus sent Hermes to the underworld, ordering Hades to restore Persephone to her mother.

However, before she left, Hades gave her a pomegranate (a common fertility symbol). When she ate from it, she was bound to spend a third of the year with her husband in the infernal regions. Only when her daughter is with her, Demeter lets things grow (summer). The dying and blossoming of nature was thus connected with Demeter.

I was watching Meet the Kardashians and saw a painting in their kitchen of what looked like hands holding a pomegranate...does anyone know where I can find this? I really love it.

Try e-mailing the show you saw. The set designer will know. It may require a little patience and detective work, bhut once you know how to reach the set designer, he/she will likely be approachable on the matter.

Lately I have notice a large increase in the length in my penis. The only factor i have realized is I have been drinking a lot of pomegranate juice. Are pomegranate seeds supposed to be yellow??

I just bought pomegranates for the first time not knowing what to expect. So after cutting one in half I started analyzing it but it doesn't look like what pomegranates sliced in half normally look like from online photos. The flesh of the pomegranate is yellow, the membrane surrounding each seed is pink/red, and the seed itself is yellow/gold. Aren't the seeds supposed to be black or dark red? Or are the photos I see online the color of the membrane, and I just happen to have a lighter-colored membrane surrounding the seeds??

Are pomegranate seeds supposed to be yellow??
Seeds normally have a yellow color and they covered with ruby like juice. Group of seeds has to be covered by membrane like skin)
Reply:red
Reply:they're supposed to be a cremeish color. it might be old.
Reply:They are supposed to be from white to deep red

The pomegranate is the fruit of Armenia....Can you tell me more about it?

Ever since I was child, it has been a staple fruit in our household and among the households of the Armenian Diaspora worldwide, and of course Armenia itself.

In Armenian mythology, the pomegranate symbolizes fertility and abundance.

Please tell me what else is there about this magnificent fruit of Armenia.

The pomegranate is the fruit of Armenia....Can you tell me more about it?
i will give this links

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomegranate

http://www.crfg.org/pubs/ff/pomegranate....

and we have excellent wine of pomegranate as you are in Armenia you can taste it.
Reply:It was I think the fruit of death in Roman mythology(read about Persephone). And long time ago, it was used as a red dye.
Reply:Origin: The pomegranate is native from Iran to the Himalayas in northern India and was cultivated and naturalized over the whole Mediterranean region since ancient times. It is widely cultivated throughout India and the drier parts of southeast Asia, Malaya, the East Indies and tropical Africa. The tree was introduced into California by Spanish settlers in 1769. In this country it is grown for its fruits mainly in the drier parts of California and Arizona.

Adaptation: Pomegranates prefer a semi-arid mild-temperate to subtropical climate and are naturally adapted to regions with cool winters and hot summers. A humid climate adversely affects the formation of fruit. The tree can be severely injured by temperatures below 12° F. In the U. S. pomegranates can be grown outside as far north as southern Utah and Washington, D.C. but seldom set fruit in these areas. The tree adapts well to container culture and will sometimes fruit in a greenhouse.
Reply:I'm not Armenian, but, the pomegranate is my favorite fruit, and has been since I was a kid.

About the only thing I know about it (other than how yummy it is) is that it apparently represents fertility (probably all the seeds...again...YUMMMY) in many cultures and myths.
Reply:I might not have the best knowledge about this but I can share a personal story about it.

I think another word for the pomegranate is Noor. Some of my best friends in college were Armenian and there were these 4 girls who called themselves the Noor Sisterhood .... all Armenians of course. I used to always ask them why Noor? and they never used to tell me. Now, one of them i hope to marry :-))), and finally I know the secret of the Noor Sisterhood.

I thought it would be better to share my story rather than do a search on the internet which you are already very good at Sera.

PS: They all wore a Pomegranate necklace
Reply:Hi! there's a story in greek mythology that has something to do with the pomegranate. The goddess of the earth Demeter have a daughter named Persephone. The ruler of the underworld, Hades fell in love w/ her, so he abducted her while she was gathering flowers w/ some friends. The distraught Demeter went to Zeus who then instructed the messenger/god Hermes to go to Hades's realm and demand the release of Persephone. But while Persephone was at Hades's realm she ate a poegranate fruit. It is said that whoever partook of that fruit would no longer be able to go back to the living world...to make the long story short...Demeter and Hades reached a compromise: for each pomegranate seed that Persephone ate, so shall be that # of months she will remain in hades's realm. she ate six seeds so she stayed 6 month underworld and six months above. every time she goes back to the underworld, Demeter becomes sad and will not let the earth be fertile (fall %26amp; winter) and the next 6 months that her daughter is w/ her, there's abundance of life (spring %26amp; summer)

hope i helped with this!
Reply:Oh we red this in school! Armenia goes in the dark world with this evil Pluto guy and Armenia is supossed to nurish the plants of the world, but wen she goes into the darkness (kidnapped by pluto) the world is unnurished and starts to die. So Armenias mom convinces Pluto to send her bak, but he makes Armenia eat a pomegrante seed which somehow in mythology will make her come back and visit him 4 half a year. And thats why spring and summer are always warm and nurished by Armenia, but fall and winter are cold and dead. Hope this helps!
Reply:tastes good- very sweet

spherical red, need to cut it and get all the little seed-like things out and eat them!
Reply:The only myth I know offhand related to pomegranates is Hades' capture of Persephone, but it turns out there are more myths involving pomegranates than a pomegranate has seeds.

Also, a pomegranate tree is the central symbol in the novel _The Kite Runner_ by Khaled Hosseini.

Is pomegranate a good ingredient for ink making?

we're doing this project in science, and we've planned to make an improvised ink. our main ingredient is the juice of pomegranate and orange. we're done getting the juice but the only problem is the color. we tried it on paper but the consistency of the color is very poor. we need something for the color of the ink. we tried food coloring but using it will defeat the purpose of the juice because food coloring itself can be ink. please help me!

Is pomegranate a good ingredient for ink making?
If you find a way to create concentrated liquid.

You may try adding a fruit/vegetable powder that is red.
Reply:I once wrote a report for school using beet juice and a fountain pen. My english teacher enjoyed it. Fruit juices are a little difficult as ink because of their sugar. Beet juice has less sugar per amount of color compared to many fruits, but it still gets sticky when concentrated. If you can figure out how to crystallize out the sugar, you might have better luck? Also, most fruit colors turn brown when they oxidize, so don't be too disappointed.

How do i seperate pomegranate seeds from the flesh?

Im trying to start making pomegranate juice. Ive got a juicer but at the moment the juice tastes a bit sour because i cannot seperate the seeds from the flesh

i use an ice cream scooper to scoop the seeds and flesh out of the pomegranate - so no skin goes in, but its difficult to remove the seeds from the flesh -

any ideas welcome.

thanks

How do i seperate pomegranate seeds from the flesh?
-Cut the crown off, and cut the pomegranite into sections

-Soak the sections in water

-Roll out the juice sacs with your fingers

To get the juice out, press the arils (juice sacs) through a fine-mesh strainer (also known as a chinois) with a spatula or large spoon. Leaves the seeds behind.
Reply:On the Food Network, Alton Brown of 'Good Eats' says to separate the seeds form the flesh by holding it underwater in a big bowl of water and working the seeds away from the flesh. The flesh rises to the top and floats while the seeds collect in the bottom. You can then just skim off the flesh from the surface of the water.
Reply:Roll the whole fruit on a hard surface then peel from the flower bud end, the seeds should come away from the membrane
Reply:I've seen chefs cut them in 1/2 then with the seed side down tap it hard on a counter or cutting board
Reply:Cut it in half and bang them out with the back of a spoon into a bowl. It gets them out easily and keeps them whole.
Reply:You could boil the seeds, then strain the juice through cheese cloth.

Pomegranate trees ... stems much too skinny (I think)?

In a very romantic moment :O), my BF and I shared a pomegranate and then planted some of its seeds. Four of the seeds sprung up and when they were just ‘babies’ we took them outside and I think the sun killed them (they shriveled up and died).

A few weeks later, we tried again, and again, four sprung up in no time. The smallest is now about 8” tall, and the tallest is over a foot, however, although their leaves are beautiful, their stems are really thin and we have had to place sticks in their pots to keep them from falling over.

Does anyone know if this is normal? If so, when will they begin to develop a stronger stem? They are about (maybe) three or four months old.

Thanks!

Pomegranate trees ... stems much too skinny (I think)?
You pomegranite plantlets seem to exhibit the classical signs of not enough light. You need to gradually intruduce them to stronger light and eventually direct sunshine. They naturally grow in areas of high temperature and hot sun, although they do need moisture to thrive and fruit well. Having said that you are unlikely to get any fruit in our climate, although goodness knows what might happen in another 20 years. If these fails try germinating the next batch in full light so that they don't get leggy. When I lived in Spain we had several in the garden. With good watering I harvested several of over 1 lb, but not much flavour! Good luck.
Reply:hey lovely fruits save me some when you get them fruiting well

Any evidence that pomegranate pills are as effective as taking the juice itself?

Seems like every time I pick up a magazine I hear more about the wonders of pomegranate juice as a nutritional supplement from everything to cardio health, plaque in arteries, even erectile dysfunction. Many health food stores sell pomegranate pills, and I was wondering if there was any truth to these claims and if the efficacy of pills is equivalent to drinking the actual juice, which can be expensive. And if the pills are beneficial, how many mg. per day should one take? Or is it all just another "herbal remedy" having its 15 minutes of fame? I appreciate your help!

Any evidence that pomegranate pills are as effective as taking the juice itself?
For certain fresh pomegranate juice is better than any pill. Juice of the pomegranate has been found effective in reducing heart disease risk factors, including LDL oxidation, macrophage oxidative status, and foam cell formation, all of which are steps in atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.
Reply:When ever you have the option of taking a liquid form of something or pill form of something, its almost guaranteed, the liquid for is more effective.

Pomegranate Apple Pie?

I'm making an apple pie tomorrow (I do it totally from scratch, including the pastry)- while I was at the store I saw pomegranates- which I like, but rarely have. I'm curious, can you add pomegranate to an apple pie?

I use Granny Smith apples, so my apple pie is already tart, so I'm not sure what difference this would make. I wasn't able to find any pomegranate apple pie recipes online. But if it worked, it would be pretty cool to actually invent a new kind of pie.

Any ideas Yahoo! people?

Pomegranate juice? Is it sour or acidic like citrus fruits? or is it sweet?

I'm not talking about the kind in the supermarket that has a bunch of apple juice and other fruits added to it, I mean 100% pomegranate juice.

Pomegranate juice? Is it sour or acidic like citrus fruits? or is it sweet?
it has a slightly tart/bitter taste, and you will usually like it if you have a sophisticated taste for bitterness. i like it:) but no its not really sour nor sweet, its more in the middle.
Reply:The 100% Pomegranate juice will be more on the tart side than sweet. It has a berry taste that gives off more of a strong raspberry taste than any citrus taste. Pom is a wonderful brand to try, it is located in most produce sections of a supermarket not in the juice sections. I hope you enjoy
Reply:it's not very sweet at all. i personally don't drink it straight up, but i like to add it to smoothies because it has lots of antioxidants.
Reply:I drink and mix into drinks/smoothies 100% Pomegranate juice almost daily and find it to be bitter. The one's in the Supermarket at loaded with extra sugar and fruit juices and are still bitter!

It's an acquired taste and I do it mostly for the antioxidant boost without the extra sugar (diabetic!)

Cheers!
Reply:I find straight pomegranate is kind of bitter actually. certainly not sweet, anyway!! whether its actually acidic i couldn't say but it's not sweet. based on flavor i'd say basic. but i'd have to test to see.

# 1 cup (8 ounces) crushed pineapple, undrained

# Juice of 1 lime

# 1/2 cup pomegranate juice

# 2 Tablespoons soy sauce

# 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Reply:I haven't made it, but here's my advice. Start with some pomegranate juice. Make sure you're getting the plain kind and not something with green tea, or blueberry, as that might turn out odd. Pour some in a saucepan and let it reduce over medium-high heat until it turns into a syrup. I'd try to make a substantial amount of this- I assume you want a strong pomegranate flavor in the ketchup, and tomato will overpower the pomegranate.

You could start with fresh tomatoes, or canned tomatoes, but that will be really tedious, as you'll have to reduce the result down to a paste. I'd start with tomato sauce and tomato paste- a good Italian canned variety. First start with the paste and add your pomegranate reduction, then adjust the consistency and flavor with the tomato sauce. You may not need or want to add sugar, since the pomegranate syrup will be fairly sweet at this point. I wouldn't add vinegar, for that matter, because the pomegranate will add a tart flavor.

I recommend dividing the ketchup at this point so you can experiment with herbs. I think a little ground tarragon might be delicious, but I'd try other things as well.

I look forward to hearing how it turns out. Do you have a food blog? If not, maybe you should start one. This is an interesting idea and you'll probably have more.

Oh, and btw- I read the recipe above- 24 fresh pomegranates are going to be ridiculously expensive.

Love Cake with Rose and Pomegranate Buttercream Frosting

This cake is perfect for sweethearts of all ages and travels easily to a party at your child's school as well as to the dinner table at the end of an intimate meal with your honey. You bake a heart-shaped cake in two pans, one square and one round. Assembling is easy and explained in step 6.

Serves 16

Preparation Time: 15 Minutes

Baking Time: 27 to30 Minutes

Assembly Time: 15 Minutes

Love Cake:

Solid vegetable shortening for greasing the pans

Flour for dusting the pans

8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter, cut in pieces

1 package (6 ounces) white chocolate, finely chopped

1 package (18.25 ounces) plain white cake mix

1 cup whole milk

3 large eggs

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Rose and Pomegranate Buttercream Frosting:

1/3 cup pomegranate seeds, from half a pomegranate

8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter, at room temperature

4 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted, or more if needed

2 tablespoons rose water

Garnish:

Fresh pomegranate seeds, from remaining pomegranate half

Leftover pomegranate juice

Rose petals

1. Place a rack in the center of the oven and preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Generously grease one 9-inch round cake pan and one 9-inch square cake pan with solid vegetable shortening, then dust with flour. Shake out the excess flour. Set the pans aside.

2. Place the butter and white chocolate in a small saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring, until both have melted, 3 to 4 minutes.

3. Place the cake mix, milk, eggs, vanilla, and melted butter and white chocolate mixture in a large mixing bowl. Blend an electric mixer on low speed for 1 minute. Stop the machine and scrape the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula. Increase the mixer speed to medium and beat 2 minutes more, scraping the sides down again if needed. The batter should look well blended. Divide the batter between the prepared pans, smoothing it out with the rubber spatula. Place the pans in the oven side by side.

4. Bake the cakes until they are light brown and spring back when lightly pressed with your finger, 27 to 30 minutes. Remove the pans from the oven and place them on wire racks to cool for 10 minutes. Run a dinner knife around the edge of each cake and invert each onto a rack, then invert them again onto another rack so that the cakes are right side up. Allow them to cool completely, 30 minutes more.

5. Meanwhile, prepare the Rose and Pomegranate Buttercream Frosting. Cut the pomegranate in half crosswise, and reserve half for garnish. Pull the peeling from the pomegranate, and with your hands, divide the pomegranate into sections. Remove the seeds from each section. There should be about 1/3 cup. Place the seeds in a fine-mesh sieve over a small bowl, and with the back of a fork press the seeds to extract the juice. Let juice drip into bowl below; it should measure 2 to 3 tablespoons. Set aside. Place the butter in a large mixing bowl. Blend with an electric mixer on low speed until fluffy, 30 seconds. Stop the machine, add the sifted confectioners' sugar, pomegranate juice, and rose water, and blend with the mixer on low speed until the sugar is combined, 1 minute. Increase the mixer speed to medium speed and beat until light and fluffy, 1 to 2 minutes more. Add more rose water if the frosting is too stiff, and add more confectioners' sugar if it seems too thin.

6. Place the square cake layer on a serving platter so that one point faces you. Cut the round cake layer in half and place the halves on adjoining sides of the square, so to form a heart shape. Spread the frosting on top and sides of the cake with clean, smooth strokes.

7. Scatter the fresh pomegranate seeds over the cake, if desired. Drizzle any leftover pomegranate juice over cake, if desired. Arrange rose petals around the cake. Slice and serve.

Cake can also be covered in waxed paper and stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Or freeze it, wrapped in aluminum foil, for up to 6 months. Thaw the cake overnight in the refrigerator before serving.

Pomegranate during pregnancy?

I am 14 weeks pregnant and have been eating a good amount of fruit everyday. But now with the change of weather in my country, the variety of fruits has changed. I have recently asked my dietician and added pomegranate to my diet. I eat almost one pomegranate everyday.

However i recently read on the internet that pomegranate was used as a contraceptive and may not be safe. I am worried now. Any suggestions please.

Pomegranate during pregnancy?
Everything in moderation.

Pomegranate has benefits during pregnancy also. If you're worried, eat it less frequently or eat less at a time. But there is no reason to avoid it altogether.

However, to the person that suggested papayas, unripe papayas can cause uterine contractions. Unless you can be 100% certain that the papaya you eat is completely ripe, do not eat it (unless you're near or past your due date).
Reply:if you're afraid of pomegranate harming your baby, change to other fruits. papayas, apples, prunes and dates. they are easy to find. especially dates. this wonder fruit contains high nutriens and vitamins and zink and iron that much needed for the baby's growth.

quoted...

Experiments have also shown that dates contain some stimulants that strengthen the muscles of the uterus in the last months of pregnancy. This helps the dilation of the uterus at the time of delivery on one hand and reduces the bleeding after delivery on the other. Dieticians consider dates as the best food for women in confinement and those who are breast-feeding. This is because dates contain elements that assist in alleviating depression in mothers and enriching the breast-milk with all the elements needed to make the child healthy and resistant to disease.
Reply:I am eating it as well, and I have no side effects. My little one is extremely healthy.

I would not worry too much, do not believe everything you read.

I have read a lot during this pregnancy and I have found that every pregnancy is unique and we should not get obsessive or paranoid over everything.
Reply:Pomegranate like Green Tea is very high in antioxidants and there for can cause your body to not be able to absorb the folic acid that the baby needs so my OBGYN told me to avoid both of those things while pregnant.
Reply:ohh. i didnt know this. i have been drinking pomegranate juice all the time, i thought antioxidents were good for you. i'm glad you posted this, now i know better.

Pomegranate?

Does anyone some things I can do with a pomegranate besides make juice? I'd greatly appreciate any recipes you've personally tried or heard of from a friend (I'm not really looking for random stuff you found on the web)... I'm thinking of using the juice to flavor some vodka and that's all I've come up with on my own so far. Are they good for baking or meat dishes? Thanks for your time~

Pomegranate is the flavoring for real Grenadine syrup used in some cocktails. You can find recipes on the web. Use it in Shirley Temples and Roy Rogers for the kids. Pour it over ice cream.

The juice can be made into an excellent jelly. Purchase a package of powdered pectin at your local supermarket and follow the recipe in the package. Use the jelly in thumbprint cookies, jelly filled doughnuts and danish pastry.

It makes a attractive and tasty champagne punch. I liter each champagne and lemon/lime soda and 1 pint juice.

Make a glaze in the same manner as orange glaze and baste it on baked ham. I've never tried it on fresh pork or on chicken but it would probably be good. I don't think it would do well w/ beef.

Substitute the pomegranate for the raspberry in raspberry-vinaigrette. My teenage granddaughter loves this on fruit-n-greens salads.

It perks up bland juices such as apple juice and white grape juice. Blend to taste.

Reply:Pomegranate seeds are very pretty when sprinkled over the top of the punch in a punch bowl.

The option to eat or discard the seeds is yours. (I don't). But you can if you want to.

Pomegranate?

I want to buy small quantites of fresh pomegranate for my bird (an African Grey). I understand that the typical season is September through November, but are there any sources year round?

Pomegranate?
You can buy pomegranites at the supermarket during the summer and fall seasons. After that you don't have many options. You could freeze the fruit leave it inside its rind. and freeze. That should work out okay.
Reply:The only thing I know of is juice. Doesn't fit what you are wanting it for though.
Reply:depends on your area. may-oct
