Do you see the Gospel of Jesus Christ in this Bible passage?

"And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.

3 And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!

4 And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?

5 And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.

6 And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.

7 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Do you see the Gospel of Jesus Christ in this Bible passage?
The Old Testament pointed to Christ. So throughout one will see Christ. When I read that I thought of the scripture where it talks about taking no thought on tomorrow. Did not Christ feed the sparrows and clothe the fields. I know I don't have this quoted right but could not think of where the scripture is.
Reply:Christ is the rock. They are found in both the New and Old Testament (see Deuteronomy 32 %26amp; 1 Cor. 10:4). Moses in this passage pictures the law of God. The law cannot save anyone. The law shows us that we are terrible sinners and need a saviour. If we ... Report It

Reply:Numbers 20, so the rock is a picture of Jesus, Moses pictures the law of God, and the water pictures the Gospel. Every living thing needs water to survive. The "water" here is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Do you recall the woman that met Jesus at the well? Report It

Reply:In John 4:14 we read, "But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life." Christ is the living water. Remember that verse in .... Report It

Reply:Romans 10:17, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Faith is a synonym for Christ (Rev. 19:11). So then Christ cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. If Christ is going to save a person it will happen by listening to Report It

Reply:Maybe just an allegory:

God saw their most critical need to stave off death, and met it with a free gift.

The people didn't trust God.
Reply:This was a rebellious and sinful generation

indeed, these who were with Moses and

Aaron. Deut. 32:5-

“ They have corrupted themselves, their spot is not the spot of his children: they are a perverse and crooked generation.”

It is no wonder that

Moses and Aaron sought the counsel of the

Lord-

“.Num. 20:6,76 And Moses and Aaron went

from the presence of the assembly unto the door

of the tabernacle of the congregation,

and they fell upon their faces:

and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.

7 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

8 Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly

together, thou, and Aaron thy brother,

and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes;

and it shall give forth his water,

and thou shalt bring forth to them water

out of the rock:

so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts

drink.

9 And Moses took the rod from before the LORD,

as he commanded him”

Comparing scripture with scripture,we come

upon some very interesting observations;

a) Christ is represented as THE ROCK;

Deu.32:3,4-

“3 Because I will publish the name

of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God.

4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways

are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity,

just and right is he.”

and also;

1 Cor. 10:1-41- “ Moreover, brethren, I would not

that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers

were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud

and in the sea;

3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;

4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink:

for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them:

and that Rock was Christ.”

b) The Christ is also identified as bringing

forth the water (which comes forth from

the ROCK). John 4:13-14.

“13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

14 But whosoever drinketh of the water

that I shall give him shall never thirst;

but the water that I shall give him

shall be in him a well of water springing up

into everlasting life.”

c) He is also THE ROD; Isa. 11:1-4

"1 And there

shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse,

and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:

2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him,

the spirit of wisdom and understanding,

the spirit of counsel and might,

the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

3 And shall make him of quick understanding

in the fear of the LORD:

and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes,

neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:

4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor,

and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth:

and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth,

and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked."

The Gospel in these verses.

By examination we can observe the forshadowing of the sacrifice of our saviour here,

because, as I stated at the start, this congra-

gation was a rebellious lot. Therefore they needed anatonement for their rebellion along with relief from their thirst;

The Lord, out of his grace and mercy sup-

plied them with water, commanding Moses to speak and strike the rock Num 20:8;

“… and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes;

and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt

bring forth to them water out of the rock:

so thou shalt give the congregation

and their beasts drink.”

Exodus 17:5,6 5

“ And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on

before the people, and take with thee

of the elders of Israel; and thy rod,

wherewith thou smotest the river,

take in thine hand, and go.

6 Behold, I will stand before thee

there upon the rock in Horeb;

and thou shalt smite the rock,

and there shall come water out of it,

that the people may drink.

And Moses did so in the sight

of the elders of Israel.

(notice He said to smite

[not twice]). Therefore the people did not

perish,

but lived....(Jn.3:16)

“ For God so loved the world,

that he gave his only begotten Son,

that whosoever believeth in him

should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

There’s the Gospel.

A Warning!

Some people believe that Moses sinned

and as a result, God wouldn't allow him to

enter the Promised Land because

God only told him to speak to the rock. They must be in error, for by comparing scripture with scripture, we see

he told Moses both. Num.20:3/Exod. 17:3-7.

The fault was that Moses struck the rock

TWICE, not just once...adding unto the

word of God and not sanctifing The Lord

before the congregation.

Deut 32:48-51

“ And the LORD spake unto Moses

that selfsame day, saying,

49 Get thee up into this mountain Abarim,

unto mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab,

that is over against Jericho;

and behold the land of Canaan, which I give

unto the children of Israel for a possession:

50 And die in the mount whither thou goest up,

and be gathered unto thy people;

as Aaron thy brother died in mount Hor,

and was gathered unto his people:

51 Because ye trespassed against me

among the children of Israel at the waters

of MeribahKadesh, in the wilderness of Zin;

because ye sanctified me not

in the midst of the children of Israel.

In the book of Hebrews, there is a verse

that often puzzles believers; Heb.6:1-6

“ Therefore leaving the principles

of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection;

not laying again the foundation

of repentance from dead works,

and of faith toward God,

2 Of the doctrine of baptisms,

and of laying on of hands,

and of resurrection of the dead,

and of eternal judgment.

3 And this will we do, if God permit.

4 For it is impossible for those

who were once enlightened,

and have tasted of the heavenly gift,

and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5 And have tasted the good word of God,

and the powers of the world to come,

6 If they shall fall away,

to renew them again unto repentance;

seeing they crucify to themselves

the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

What it is stating is that one who has

tasted of the goodness of the Lord,

and of his re-newing of his spirit should con-

tinue in that faith and mature. When we sin

we are to repent. It is not even feasible

that we seek to be "saved again" or baptised again.., or anything such.......that would be an act of disbelief.....stating in our very actions that Christ's work was inadequite.

....Thus the signicance of the error refered

to in the striking of the rock...twice.

In conclusion,

Deut.8:15

11 Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God,

in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments,

and his statutes, which I command thee this day:

12 Lest when thou hast eaten and art full,

and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein;

13 And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply,

and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied,

and all that thou hast is multiplied;

14 Then thine heart be lifted up,

and thou forget the LORD thy God,

which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt,

from the house of bondage;

15 Who led thee through that great

and terrible wilderness,

wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions,

and drought, where there was no water;

who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;

Isa.12:33 Therefore with joy shall ye draw water

out of the wells of salvation.

And again;….Amos 8:3

11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD,

that I will send a famine in the land,

not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water,

but of hearing the words of the LORD:
