Why does persephone still have to stay in the underworld for a couple of months?

why is that? when all she did was eat pomegranate seeds?! and whats the reason (in mythology) for making her stay in the underworld for four months? i mean why not make it nine months?! HELP

The Story was one of The Ancient People's versions of "Creationism'.
Reply:it is because the underworld god took her and made her become his wife.. she is allowed to come back and make the earth bloom.. which describes the seasons.
Reply:In greek/roman mythology there was a "rule" that if a living being ate 1 full piece of food from the underworld, they could never leave. Since she only ate 4 pomegranate seeds and not the whole fruit, as well as the fact that her mother is a goddess, hades/ares waived the rule abit so that she was only in the underworld 1 month a year for every seed she ate.
