What are these insect seed pods inside the leaves of my pecan tree?!?!?

Inside the leaves, grown/created through the leaf of this Texas pecan tree are small green seed pods the size of dimes that look like tiny fruits connected to and growing straight through the membranes of the leaves. They look like tiny pomegranates but inside there are dozens and dozens of tiny insects with wings that look a bit like flies. Please, what on earth are these things and how do we get rid of them??

It sounds like you might have phylloxera (Pecan bugs is what my Grandpa always called them) Once the "galls" appear on the leaves, it's too late to spray for the season, but you can use an insecticide next season before they appear.

They look bad, but usually no lasting harm is done to the tree -although you'll need to keep an eye on it and spray it next year..

If the tree isn't treated next year, the infestation can get worse and you can end up losing branches ( or possibly the whole tree) - so you need to keep on top of it..

The things is, you won't know if the infestation is there again until the galls appear, and then it's too late to spray for the year, so call your local ag department or nursery and see if they can possibly identify it for you , and recommend a spray or treatment for next year.

I hope this helps...

Nothing you can do except pick off infected leaves and burn them to reduce future populations

Odds are it will take a few years
