What does "flash pastuerized" mean? Is it as safe?

I'm 18 weeks pregnant and I know I'm not supposed to consume foods that are unpastuerized.

The other day I drank a juice (Odawalla pomegranate lemonade...very yummy) and after I read that the product was "flash pastuerized" and I'm not sure if that meant it wasn't "pastuerized" enough.

Does anyone know..

.....

In case you hadn't heard about this issue....

so please please refrain from the "but I ate and drank raw snail juice and smoked 5 packs of cigarettes a day when I was pregnant and my baby is fine" answers. I'd really just like my question answered.

Thanks!

What does "flash pastuerized" mean? Is it as safe?
Flash pasteurization is a method of heat pasteurization of perishable beverages like milk, fruit and vegetable juices, and beer. It is done prior to filling into containers in order to kill spoilage microorganisms, as an effort to make the products safer and to extend their shelf life.

The liquid moves in a controlled, continuous flow while subjected to temperatures of 71.5ºC (160ºF) to 74ºC (165ºF), for about 15 to 30 seconds
Reply:Just Asking gave you a great explanation, in answer to your otehr question, yes. Flash pastuerization is just another form of regular ole pastuerization, they bring about the same result. Anything flash pasteurized is just as safe as anything pasteurized by an other method. There is no degree of pasteurization, something either is or isn't. Good luck in your pregnancy, it's very refreshing to see someone so into the prenatal health of their child.
Reply:Yep, I drank the same brand of juices while I was pregnant. I was concerned so I brought it into my Dr. so that she could look at the label. (Silly move, but you can't be too careful I guess!)

Enjoy!
