Will the bonsai or dwarf version of the punica granatum actually grow mini pomegranates?
Punica Granatum (Dwarf pomegranate)?
Punica Granatum var. nana will grow small fruit and have flowers but ornamental only.

Yes it will; provided the flowers are pollinated. But as the fruit needs fairly high temperatures to mature properly, a warm and sunny position is essential. The fruit of the dwarf pomegranate is edible but because of its small size is more difficult to prepare, so if your aim is harvesting of fruit the larger varieties are probably preferable.
